I have yet to buy their Jazz & Big Band 3 library, but that may be worth an investigation on your part as there are several guitars included with that set. I use Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 and Garritan World Instruments - both run using the Aria Player, which can be handled in standalone mode or as a VST. I can definitely vouch for Garritan's work. (The one exception has been the VST with Vocaloid Version 1 voices, but that is certainly quite old technology.) NB, jmsmusic and others are more up-to-date on newer PrintMusic capabilities/interface than I am.Ĭost can certainly be an issue, but I find that with VSTs, whether they are freebies or the more expensive fare, PrintMusic has thus far been able to handle almost everything I have tried.

Sampled sounds are more expensive to get into and there has been some discussion that PrintMusic cannot exploit their capabilities 100%. I started a thread about this but it may not be so relevant to you and your version of PrintMusic: More background may be gleaned from reading-up on Vienna SoundFont Studio (). You can replace/modify your default soundfont. A few weeks ago, I uploaded a video on the sfz+ plug-in to YouTube (using PrintMusic 2011 as the host): sfz+ is available for free online in many places I acquired mine with a free membership to (the free membership also provides more than a dozen SoundFonts - the actual sounds included rotate periodically).

To do this, install sfz+ as above, assign sfz+ to a bank of MIDI channels, then open sfz+ and add the SoundFont(s) as needed. Using individual SoundFonts is also possible using the sfz+ VST plug-in. (I am not at home at the moment so cannot guide on specific steps, but they are outlined in the online manual.) Then a VST instrument can be assigned to a bank of MIDI Channels. VSTs are straightforward: install them to the appropriate place(s) on your computer, tell PrintMusic to scan those folders, and they will install each time PrintMusic is started. I use VSTs and SoundFonts almost exclusively. I understand that it is possible to replace the entire default sound set with a General MIDI SoundFont, but I have not tried that. SoundFonts and VSTs can both be used with PrintMusic (20). "As a musician, he's a damn fine woodworker." That's my system, and I'm stickin' to it.įavorite reference: Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, Gerou & Lusk, 1996
